Choosing Effex is a choice against climate change – a choice for a better future.
Effex is made of wood procured from sustainably managed forests. As a renewable resource, wood is a superior material in terms of its environmental properties and it plays a tangible role in curbing climate change. As trees grow, they store carbon dioxide, which remain in the wood furniture, walls, etc. for centuries at best. In Europe, forest growth clearly exceeds the amount of forests felled.
Stora Enso is committed to the principles of sustainable forestry and does not purchase wood from protected areas. The company and its subsidiaries work actively with various forest certification systems throughout the world.
Careful production planning ensures efficient use of raw materials. The by-products generated include chips, which are used as a raw material in the pulp and paper industry, and sawdust and shavings, which are used in the wood-based board industry or for pellet production. Bark is used, for example, during the drying process for Effex and for generating heat for the premises at our Honkalahti mill in Joutseno, where the Effex blanks are manufactured.
